These new townhomes in the Central District are purposefully designed as 3-story units instead of 4 in order to fill the need in the neighborhood for new couples starting out with their first home. A simple, minimal design approach was taken to ensure a seamless fit with the surrounding neighborhood along with durable, cost-efficient material selection to maintain affordability for the future home owners.
A challenging aspect of this project was designing for an awkward, long skinny lot and making the most of the space while creating comfortably-sized rooms, maintaining space for the existing exceptional tree and keeping the height minimized. The stairwell penthouses were strategically sloped to minimize the height while the rooftop decks feature open railings to reduce the perceived height. Each unit features its own private patio with permeable pavers and a planter area along with large windows in the living area to provide ample natural light into the units. Permeable pavers were also used at the entry way and a surface parking area provided for tenants is located in the rear of the building.
