Ice Cream Shop

Frankie & Jo's, University Village

Frankie & Jo's third location leans into the Palm Springs vibe, bringing desert warmth to University Village all year round. Frankie & Jo's have a clear brand identity that is reflected everything they do, but they also want each space to have some unique elements. Here, the deep green tones and bold wallpaper subtly reinforce the plant-based ice cream experience.

All of Frankie & Jo's locations embrace texture and pattern, with concrete block walls a feature in all the spaces. But, for this location we really leaned into the texture and shadow. The awning takes advantage of the changing sunlight, creating interesting shadow patterns on the building and sidewalk. Terrazzo acts as an accent at the base of the storefront and a hint of what’s to come inside. The Frankie and Jo’s logo has also taken on a new look on the front of the building as one horizontal line that lights up with a soft white neon as the light fades. Inside, the concrete block wall, fluted bar front, shiplap paneling, and wallpaper add even more visual interest.

Inside, the familiar concrete blocks that make up the counters in the first two locations in Capitol Hill and Ballard, have been moved to the back wall as an accent pattern and the counter itself is a new pattern for a more refined look. Also new is the addition of the familiar deep green tone seen in their merchandise and now a part of the scoop shop.

The archways and rounded edges throughout bring you back to Palm Springs, reminding you of sunnier days. This design collaboration is always a fun one - helping to bring new ideas to each location of an established and beloved local brand.
