Wooded Retreat

This is a good place for overall project text....

The interior of the original home was clad entirely in wood siding with dated slate flooring throughout and walls separating the kitchen from the other living spaces. With the addition of end grain wood flooring, sections of wood siding were removed in order to help balance the overall feel of the space. Black stained cabinets and soapstone countertops offer a counterpoint to the warm wood tones. While a post was required to remain, the wall dividing kitchen and storage was removed, and the opening between the kitchen and entry enlarged - this allows for a more open feeling, while still providing distinct living areas. Oversized concrete pendants help fill the volume with a playful placement, distinct from the orthogonal structural elements.

The copper sink and cabinet in the powder room remained, but with new flooring, counter, and backsplash it is connected to the updated spaces. Darker tones were again used in the bathroom to balance all of the wood. Large skylights, a window, and large pill shaped mirror keep the primary bathroom from being overly dark.
