The homeowners wanted to expand the house for their growing family with ample room for entertaining and everyday living while retaining its original character and charm. The renovation included a kitchen remodel and dining room addition, with views to the garden and a covered back deck for year-round enjoyment. New skylights in the dining room and the back deck bring in lots of natural light.
In the original layout, the dining room was completely separated from the kitchen by an existing stair. As part of the remodel, the stair was opened up to the kitchen and dining room addition. A new custom wood newel post provides a better sense of flow and connection. The dining space features a custom mix of both open shelving and closed cabinetry for additional storage along with a serving counter. Behind the open shelving is a patterned wallpaper that has a subtle shine in the light. The wallpaper paired with the wood shelving creates an elegant and natural craftsman vibe. The dining room cabinetry is painted a jeweled-tone blue that adds a spark of vibrancy in the airy space.
