Capturing the essence of family life, this 1980s suburban house in Redmond, Washington, underwent a transformation, blending style and function effortlessly. The family of six urgently needed a space upgrade and revitalized interior to breathe new life into their dated home. The remodel involved adding a second-floor extension over the garage, providing a spacious playroom and two new bedrooms, perfect for the family's active lifestyle. Outdated elements, such as faded wood, white laminate cabinetry, dated tile countertops, honey oak accents, and carpeted bathrooms, were replaced. A refined neutral palette was introduced throughout the home, showcasing natural stone and contrasting matte black accents and fixtures, creating an elegant backdrop for daily life. Throughout the entire home, the windows were replaced with black interior and white exterior frames, enhancing the overall aesthetic.
Upstairs, the awkward hallway filled with 45-degree angles was reworked to create a more straightforward path through the space and additional storage. Each of the children's bathrooms was given its own unique character. One bath has a large glass shower with gleaming white tile, green cabinetry, white vanity, and a circular mirror for a modern farmhouse flair. The other features a full bathtub with glass doors, shiny blue tile, and deep navy cabinetry, contrasting with white countertops. The primary bath was upgraded from an oversized jacuzzi tub to a sophisticated, functional shower for two, with stone tiles, an integrated seat, and multiple shower heads. The double vanity with walnut cabinetry adds a touch of elegance, matching the linen closet cabinetry in the toilet room.
In the living room, the space was refreshed by replacing the oversized brick hearth with a subtle stone slab surround. The adjacent kitchen underwent an entire remodel, resulting in a fresh and clean design with contrasting bright white cabinetry, countertops, matte black hardware, furnishings, and a black island with integrated storage cabinets. One of the most striking changes in the home is the newly widened entry, creating a more inviting arrival experience. Adjacent to the entry, the sunroom now features large picture windows and a modern fireplace surround, allowing natural light to flood the space and seamlessly connect with the outdoors. A new powder room was created in the space under the staircase with a custom, live edge counter designed to make use of an awkward corner along with a sleek, modern sink and bold wallpaper.
