Kirkland Residence

Featuring an open floor plan, vaulted ceilings, and a connection to outdoor spaces, this renovated family home in Kirkland integrates dark blue shaker cabinets, sleek modern fixtures, and dark hardwood floors to create a space that is as functional as it is beautiful.

This home's original main level needed to be updated and functional for the new family. The kitchen had a dropped ceiling and was separated from the vaulted living space by a large two-story fireplace.

The primary drivers were opening up the rooms to bring in more light and create a more functional space. The fireplace was removed to create a completely open floorplan and allow for a formal dining space. The originally sunken living room was raised so the entire space could flow seamlessly. The ceiling to the kitchen was vaulted and the orientation of the kitchen, living, and dining areas was changed to allow for a connection to the outdoor spaces.

The owners wanted to incorporate classic design elements (like white shaker cabinets) but were also interested in utilizing bolder/modern features with painted cabinets and updated fixtures. The result was a shaker kitchen with mainly dark blue cabinets and white cabinets for the uppers only. Updated light fixtures were selected for the kitchen and living spaces and the entry staircase was rebuilt to accommodate the single-floor level. New darker floors relate to the custom-designed hardwood treads and handrails.
