Classic Craftsman

This family residence underwent a significant remodel, expanding its living space, enhancing connectivity between the kitchen and living area with a cased arch, and adding functional elements like a deck and an interior staircase to the basement, all while blending classic and craftsman styles for a family of four.

Near the Seaview neighborhood in West Seattle, this charming family residence underwent a transformative remodel to accommodate the evolving needs of a family of four. The original 730 sq ft of living space was expanded by 150 sq ft, resulting in 880 sq ft, greatly enhancing the family's day-to-day living experience. One of the significant changes in this project was removing a wall separating the living space from the kitchen, enabling seamless conversations between the two areas. A cased arch was constructed to strike a balance and maintain some privacy without completely opening the space, creating a more connected and spacious environment for entertaining guests. The kitchen’s layout was reimagined by removing one of the three doorways leading to the exterior and extending the room towards the side yard. This extension paved the way for a dining nook that effortlessly flowed into the kitchen, with open storage under the kitchen cabinets. The kitchen transformation also featured the addition of new flooring and lighting.

The construction of a deck off the dining room creates an outdoor space for the family to enjoy. An interior staircase was built to connect the main floor with the basement, which previously had only an exterior entrance. This new connection doubles as a functional mudroom with fun tile flooring and space for storing shoes and coats. The staircase will become even more useful once the family moves forward with their plans to remodel the basement to include two additional rooms. The bathroom was entirely reconfigured to improve the flow and received all-new finishes, enhancing aesthetics and functionality. Throughout the project, the design combined two distinct styles, classic and craftsman, resulting in a charming and open home that is airy and fully functional for this family of four.
