Nana’s Green Tea, a renowned Japanese café and global matcha brand from Tokyo, opened its latest US location in Bellevue. Known for its authentic Japanese teas and desserts, the café sought to create a design that combined Japanese and Northwest styles. Atelier Drome collaborated with Nana’s Green Tea designer, Mashiro Yoshida, to develop a space that balances the two aesthetics.
Located in the busy downtown core, the cafe needed a layout that could comfortably accommodate large numbers of patrons with a variety of seating and movement options, especially during peak hours. With this objective, the design emphasizes smooth and efficient customer flow from ordering to seating, ensuring an enjoyable customer experience. Custom-designed retail shelving, crafted from materials of the previous space, blends style and functionality. The soothing rhythm of the shelves is seamlessly interwoven with the minimal wood panels that create open spaces for customers to pause and observe the activity throughout the room while also providing a sense of separation within the compact space.
