Frankie & Jo's, Capitol Hill
Frankie and Jo’s flagship scoop shop in Capitol Hill combines industrial materials with tropical décor for a unique Palm Springs vibe, featuring an open layout for customer-staff interaction and private back-of-house operations, enhanced by mid-century design elements and vibrant colors.
Frankie and Jo’s first brought their delicious and vibrant colored plant-based ice cream to Seattle with their Capitol Hill flagship on Union right between the Broadway core and Seattle University. The cozy shop itself is a blend of industrial materials and tropical décor where concrete meets palm trees for a delightful Palm Springs feel. The washes of colors amidst the bright and bold patterns create an aesthetic that gives a nod to mid-century design.
The front door opens right into an open area that allows customers the ability to queue up while deciding on their flavor of choice and admiring the merchandise and pints in the fridge. Seating areas on either side of the front door, both inside and out, offer space to briefly mingle with cones.
Keeping the space light and bright, it was important to have the open counter to allow for interaction between the staff and customers as they try and order from the continually rotating seasonal menu of flavors. At the same time, the back of house remains out of view to house the operations side of ice cream shop.
