TREAT COOKIES

Located behind a historic brick storefront in the heart of Old Burien, Treat Cookies’ new space is a treat for all the senses. The design strikes a balance between playful and modern, creating a unique gathering space for Treat Cookies to serve their delicious baked goods and connect with their local community.

The initial space was dark, dated, and lined with wood paneling – a far cry from the bright and inviting space it is today. Our team removed the exterior awning and interior walls, and were surprised to find the original storefront windows mostly intact. With the space suddenly filled with natural light, we were able to heighten the connection between interior and exterior, melding the historic Old Burien façade with a modern, bright, and activated retail space.

from the tiled counter leading gracefully into the space, to the velvet cushions on the generous banquette along the Western wall. A double arched opening at the rear of the space connects the retail and the kitchen, offering customers a peek at daily cookie creation.

The owners wanted to reuse the existing display case and storage unit, so these were enlivened with fresh coats of paint and topped with a row of arches to integrate them further into the design aesthetic. A cluster of paper globes dance from the ceiling, illuminating a path through the space, and two light-filled benches along the storefront provide additional seating for visitors to enjoy their milk and cookies.
