STEVEN BOHLMAN
DESIGNER
As a former professional whitewater kayaker, Steven Bohlman is adept at handling whatever challenges are thrown his way. Originally from Ohio, Steven traveled extensively for his competitive career, eventually landing in Boulder, Colorado where he completed his Bachelor of Environmental Design. He relocated to Seattle to pursue his Master of Architecture at the University of Washington, spending six months in Copenhagen on the SCAN Design Fellowship. Steven connected with Henry and Michelle shortly after graduating, and was hired as Atelier Drome’s first employee. After a few years away from the firm, Steven rejoined the Atelier Drome team in 2021.
Steven is a skilled jack-of-all-trades, with a keen ability to balance constraints while thinking tangentially. His focus on mid- and high-rise residential projects arose from his time in Copenhagen, where he developed expertise in designing compact spaces and an appreciation for sustainable, natural materials. His hands-on early career experience working in construction further equipped him to manage projects at all stages – from ideation through to construction. Steven is motivated by innovation, and enjoys working with CAD systems to find new ways to convey information and aesthetics cleanly and concisely. Steven’s take on reinventing the wheel? "If we’ve already got a wheel, why not see how can we make it faster?”
Steven’s need for speed extends beyond the office. In his time off he enjoys running, climbing, kayaking, giant slalom ski racing, and biking around Bainbridge Island where he lives with his wife and two daughters.
