Judith Rayl
Artist Bio
In her semi-abstract photography, Judith explores the tender beauty found at the intersection of nature and the human-made. Judith is inspired by emotive, intimate, naturally abstract images of harmony and reconciliation. She believes in the healing power of nature; her art is a statement of sensitivity to our environmental crisis.
For Judith, at the confluence of ecology and urban life lies a still-point of possibility. By seeking this balance through her art, she finds a renewed sense of abundance. Judith’s raw, single-capture photography uses no double images, layering, nor retouching; she embraces the impermanence of each moment. She uses natural refractions and reflections for a fresh viewpoint on photography.
As a child, Judith loved both art and science. On weekends her family would allow her to explore freely in museums, and she would happily roam the galleries. Judith pursued her education in medicine while continuing to be a passionate art lover. She retired from her medical career to focus her energy on art.
In 2017, Judith began photography and embarked upon her art career. Since 2017 her work has been selected for 60+ exhibitions, with 14 solo shows and 5 awards. She was chosen for the Seattle Office of Arts and Culture Ethnic Artist Roster.
Showing her art in gallery exhibitions has allowed Judith to build a deeper sense of community. For viewers of her art, Judith aspires to create moments of visual and emotional significance. She is passionate about creating connection and shared emotional territory through her art.
Judith lives on an island in Puget Sound with her family, surrounded by wild beautiful nature.
